At
MVCC
cause is a
multifaceted
reality. At one
level, we think it’s
important for those
who follow the
teachings of Jesus
to be involved in
doing and not just
talking about
doing. Our faith is
a faith of action,
we are always
looking for ways we
can impact our
community. This
message of "doing
faith" is found
throughout
scripture. James
[Jesus' brother]
gives us this core
teaching of our
faith:
"The very moment you
separate body and
spirit, you end up
with a corpse.
Separate faith and
works and you get
the same thing: a
corpse." [as
recorded by James,
one of the brothers
of Jesus the Christ,
in his written
account of the
events - James 2:25
Another facet of
cause is that we
connect others to
God when we commit
ourselves to cause;
we become an example
of what a Follower
of Christ is to a
community.
When we realize that
we are committed to
a cause, we realize
that Jesus’
cause becomes our
cause; we purpose
our lives to help
others find their
way back to God. At
MVCC,
we strive to allow
each person develop
their personal call
to cause:
"If you've gotten
anything at all out
of following Christ,
if his love has made
any difference in
your life, if being
in a community of
the Spirit means
anything to you, if
you have a heart, if
you care— then do me
a favor: Agree with
each other, love
each other, be
deep-spirited
friends. Don't push
your way to the
front; don't
sweet-talk your way
to the top. Put
yourself aside, and
help others get
ahead. Don't be
obsessed with
getting your own
advantage. Forget
yourselves long
enough to lend a
helping hand." [in
